Historical document

Well there you have it:

Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York. “Bin Laden Determined To Strike in US”, Presidential Daily Briefing, August 6, 2001.

  1. Why didn't you post up the paragraph prior to the one you posted up?

"We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as..."

What we have here is 'threats' since 1998 that are not corroborated that in which includes surveillance of some federal buildings in New York.

Oh gee! Sound the Alarms on this one folks. Osama Bin Laden is going after New York in 1998.

It is remarkable that you think a Hijacking threat from 1998 is a sign of trouble in 2001.
And that a threat that is considered NOT CORROBORATED is a reason for alarm.

If you log on to www.cnn.com you can see the President Bush ever since this PDB sent the alert levels up for Law Enforcement Agencies in case the scenario of Explosives shipping from Canada would be reality.

To blame this on BUSH is just pure, simple, ignorance. There's nothing in the report that even hints at anything like September 11th, 2001 as Condoleeza Rice said in her testimony.

  2. One last comment here. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in this report that suggests Osama Bin Laden is planning to hijack planes and use them as a weapon against New York Federal Buildings in 2001.

All this report is is a 2 page historial listing of 'Possible Scenarios.' It is not a Incoming Threat Report.

There's nothing in this report that would suggest that President Bush should increase vast security measures in all of America's Airports.

  3. Also Rick it does not say that Iraq is making WMD or the like. Yet here we are in a unnessary war and spending lives a treasure. Yet Bush acted there.

  4. If Bush had sought a detailed briefing on the 70 ongoing FBI investigations he would surely have learned of the suspicious men In the Minnesota flight school who wanted to learn to fly, but not to takeoff or land.

  5. It is interesting to note that President Bush as correctly mentioned during Condoleeza Rice's testimony did indeed task the FBI on the 70 individuals in question. It is the FBI's failure in not getting that piece of info JIM talks about to the White House. Not Bush's fault.

It is not surprising to see Liberals have absolutely forgotten about Iraq's Al Samoud Missiles, Funding of Terrorist Families, Harboring of Terrorists, and Unmanned Arial Veihcle Program, and Harboring of ANO (Abu Nidal Organization), Salman Pak Terrorist Training Camp.

All of which are plenty enough reasons to act immediately on Iraq. Which is why John Kerry in part voted for the war!

If you disagree about going to war with IRAQ then you would have disagreed about going to war with Afghanistan prior to 9/11 as well as with shutting down all Airports in America based on the August 6th memo.

  6. Rick I suggest you read
http://tnr.com/easterbrook.mhtml?pid=1545 . How would America have reacted if we found these guys before 9-11 and went after everyone hard afterwards? Would Bush still be president?

  7. "including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York"

You do realize that the two folks being investigated under suspicion of "staking out the NY federal buildings" were later determined to be tourists, right?

Ok, I thought so.... just checking.
