Who's it gonna be?

Tons of rumors flying that Gephardt’s a lock, and plenty of responses, with Kos weighing in with a somewhat surprising defense of Gep.

Personally? The thought of Gephardt as VP leaves me seriously underwhelmed. (I’ll be equally underwhelmed if Wonkette’s right and it’s Graham, but then at least we’d have quite the campaign blog to look forward to.) So perhaps it’s wishful thinking that I’m predicting that tomorrow’s announcement will be out of left field. Much has been made of the fact that Kerry’s had face to face meetings with Gephardt, Vilsack, and Edwards in the past week, and that they’ll all be with him tomorrow.

I think those three are the nucleus of his cabinet. I think the VP nominee is a name we haven’t seen talked about in the press much. Maybe Bill Bradley?

We’ll know in less than 12 hours…

Our conversations with most Republicans around the State these past several days have not revealed the groundswell for Jack Ryan to leave the ballot that a very few in our State GOP leadership have claimed. Quite the contrary, the vast majority of Republicans we have heard from want Jack to forge ahead on the real issues of this campaign.

Jack Ryan's integrity and vision were tremendous assets to this race and he would have been a great advocate for Illinois residents in Washington. But now, the fading George Ryan Wing of our IL GOP is trying to claim yet another victim. Let's not let that happen!

Jack Ryan is still on the ballot until he officially files the paperwork with the Board of Elections. As of today, he has not made the withdrawal official by filing. The 19 members of the State Central Committee who would now choose Jack's replacement were never elected directly by you - the voters. But now they seek to substitute their judgment for that of Illinois Primary voters who registered their choice in March.

Sign the BRING JACK BACK! petition and encourage Jack Ryan to continue his campaign for the U.S. Senate and stop the State GOP from disenfranchising the Republican voters of Illinois. After all, shouldn't the voters decide?

  2. Kerry VP Race

A lot of people are saying that Gephardt is going to be Kerry's Vice Presidential pick. I don't claim any special insight into Kerry's mind, but why? I don't know if I buy what I take to be the main...
